This birthday portrait session was photographed along the Jersey Shore near Tuckerton, New Jersey, one of my favorite locations for children’s beach portraits in South Jersey. portrait sessions feel less like a photoshoot and more like a childhood memory unfolding in real time.
This birthday session took place along the quiet bay near Tuckerton where the water stays calm, the sunsets stretch wide across the horizon, and the evening light turns everything soft and golden. It was the perfect setting for a little girl celebrating another year of growing up.
Dressed in a flowing pink gown, she spent most of the evening doing what children do best — exploring the shoreline, collecting shells, and running along the water’s edge while the sun slowly dipped behind the bay.
A Quiet Jersey Shore Location for Children's Portraits
The bay side of the Jersey Shore near Tuckerton is one of my favorite places for children’s portraits. Unlike the busier ocean beaches, the bay offers calm water, soft sand, and open skies that create a peaceful environment for kids to relax and simply be themselves.
For young children especially, that relaxed atmosphere makes a huge difference. Instead of feeling like they’re “posing for pictures,” they can play, move, and interact naturally with the environment — which is where the most genuine expressions happen.
Golden Hour Light on the Bay
This session took place just before sunset, when the light along the Jersey Shore becomes warm and pastel. Golden hour on the bay creates a beautiful glow across the water, reflecting soft tones of pink, peach, and gold that naturally complement children’s portraits.
It’s a time of day that allows kids to move freely while still creating images that feel timeless and artistic.
