This sweet Sewell, New Jersey toddler portrait session was full of personality from the very beginning. She arrived ready to explore, twirl, and completely take ownership of the moment — which is exactly what makes photographing this age so much fun. Toddler sessions are never about perfection. When a Dress Becomes Part of the Story

This session featured couture children’s dresses from the studio wardrobe collection, including designs by Anna Triant and Jeanne Sterrer. Both styles created completely different moods while still feeling timeless and elegant.

And yes — there was plenty of twirling.

Photographing toddlers requires flexibility, patience, and a sense of humor. They decide when they want to participate. They decide when they need a break. And occasionally, they decide that the grass is more interesting than the camera.

During this session we played games, took snack breaks, and followed her lead — because authentic expressions always come from comfort, not pressure. When children feel free to move and explore, the portraits naturally feel more genuine.

A Second Look, A Different Mood

Changing wardrobe partway through a session creates beautiful variety. The soft purple gown brought a more whimsical, fairytale feel while still keeping the playful energy of toddlerhood.

The contrast between elegant styling and childlike wonder is something I love photographing. It creates portraits that feel artistic while still preserving real personality.
