Top 10 Truly Unique Places To Visit in Philadelphia

My List of the Best of Philadelphia: A Top 10 List for Locals and Tourists!

Philadelphia, the enchanting City of Brotherly Love, offers a plethora of captivating locations that will undoubtedly inspire your next photo shoot. From historic landmarks to hidden gems, let's explore some of the most unique photo shoot locations and must-visit spots in Philadelphia.

1. Philadelphia Museum of Art

Don’t even ask me how I edited out the people. This was waaaaay before AI came into play! However, it made for an iconic photo shoot!

Kick-start your creative journey at the iconic Philadelphia Museum of Art, which houses an extensive collection of classical and contemporary art. Capture stunning shots on the museum's grand staircase or in front of the famous "Rocky Steps" - a spot that pays homage to the city's cinematic history. This is pretty much on every tourists list… but the views are pretty cool. I have even photographed a First Holy Communion Shoot Here! It was actually fun.

2. Magic Gardens

Venture into Philadelphia's Magic Gardens, a truly captivating outdoor art installation by Isaiah Zagar. This whimsical and colorful mosaic masterpiece is the perfect backdrop for creating visually striking and vibrant imagery. I had a photo shoot here with two sisters. I think we were more impressed with exploring the site, then to actually be having a photo shoot. This is located off of South Street and I highly suggest Marrakesh for some Morroccan food. You won’t be disappointed.

3. Fairmount Park

Escape the urban hustle by exploring the expansive Fairmount Park, one of the largest urban parks in the country. With its serene landscapes, delicate gardens, and picturesque waterfronts, this green oasis offers a multitude of photo-worthy locations. This place has both indoor and outdoor gardens. I have photographed at both of them! It’s definitely worth a visit, especially in the doldrums of the winter and the cherries to see lining Fairmount Park in the Spring are quite remarkable.

4. Eastern State Penitentiary

For those seeking an eerie ambiance or a touch of the macabre, the Eastern State Penitentiary is an intriguing locale. This former prison, with its haunting architecture and crumbling walls, provides a hauntingly beautiful setting for capturing atmospheric and dramatic images. You can also have your photos taken here. Just like I did with this engagement spot.

5. Go under the “EL” and Visit a Truly Unique Graffiti spot on N. Front Street

There is an incredible place near 1611 N. Front Street that you will find a medley of fun and artsy stuff! Including: unique coffee shops and outdoor restaurants with neat graffiti walls, hanging string lights and different places to eat. The neighborhood is truly funky and it reminds me of Brooklyn’s Bushwick. It has that down-to-earth artistic vibe! Artists from all over the world adore the surrounding neighborhood’s walls and I find it to be one of the most undiscovered gems of the city. Reminds me of the old South Street days, before it became a tourist trap. Also, I feel really inspired here with all the art and vibrancy! Lots of young professionals. Very hip!

6. Check out Rittenhouse Delancey and Addison Streets.

I would say these two neighborhoods (near Pine) are iconic of the luxury Philadelphia row homes. Yet, extremely gorgeous and fun to walk around and sightsee/explore. I find the neighborhood very friendly (they’ve even let my mom use the restroom while we had a photo shoot before). The lights on Addison street are up year round, but add a magical ethereal feel to the street. This street I have adored through the years and have many fabulous photo sessions here!

7. Christmas at Miracle on 13th- South Philly

This street should be on everyone’s bucket list around Christmas time. It’s a cheery neighborhood in South Philly. Some of these homes have different themes every year, so each year is different. I have shot a ton of photo sessions here. Each time, it just gets better and better. It truly is a Miracle! ANYTIME you walk down the street, you will be greeted by a resident saying,”HI.” It’s such a prideful neighborhood and it is pretty cool. WE LOVE Miracle on 13th Street here at Shooting Star Photography!

8. East Passyunk Street

Passyunk has become a dining destination. Also, a shopper’s paradise. It’s worth going to explore from Broad Street down to thePat’s/Geno’s area. It’s definitely turned more upscale through the years. With world renowned restaurants (South Philly Barbacoa) is in this neighborhood. My favorite establishment is Cantina Los Caballitos in this neighborhood. The watermelon margarita is absolutely delicious!

9. Philadelphia City Hall

Marvel at the grandeur of Philadelphia City Hall, an architectural masterpiece that stands as the largest municipal building in the United States. Capture its impressive neoclassical facade or explore the stunning interior for a blend of history and elegance in your photo shoot. It’s one of my favorite streets to shoot on (Broad and the City Hall vicinity). A lot of my family sessions I do here.

10. Cira Green

This place is super cool. It’s got the whole urban cool garden vibe thing going on. Located near the University of Pennsylvania/Drexel campuses. It’s a parking garage. However, on the rooftop of this parking garage, is a city garden oasis. It even has grass to sit down on for a picnic. The skyline views are what draw people in. Most importantly, Cira Green is FREE to go and visit. It has started to become more and more popular over the years. Offering up sporadic beer gardens and pop up restaurants on the rooftop, but it’s never really packed… the sunsets are cool and the skyline is even better. It’s another place I have photographed and I love. I will blog about this one some more!

Shhhh. Am adding a BONUS 11th position on this list, as I don’t see it mentioned anywhere!

11. Light Installation (North Poles) on North Broad Street

This is another neat spot to check out. If you go to see a concert at the Met in Philadelphia, there is huge lighting installation that lines North Broad street. The North Poles were designed to enhance community in the North Broad Section. Different LED lighting comes on at different times and it is really something cool to check out or to have a photoshoot opportunity!
