When Wildwood's Beach Magic Meets a Little Redhead in Lavender – A Jersey Shore Family Photoshoot
Let’s face it—beach photo shoots can be a wild adventure, especially when you’re working with an energetic 8-year-old redhead who knows how to twirl, laugh, and turn a simple beach day into a magical photo op. As a South Jersey photographer, I’m lucky enough to live and work in a spot where stunning memories are made on Wildwood’s sandy shores.
A beautiful moment captured at the Jersey Shore as a young girl in a flowing lavender dress strolls along the beach, her silhouette glowing in the soft sunlight. The beach's serene beauty and the gentle waves add to the tranquil, magical vibe of this photo.
A carefree red-haired girl twirls with joy on the sandy beach, her vibrant hair dancing in the breeze. The sun's golden rays highlight her playful spirit as the waves crash in the background, making this beach moment truly magical.
Recently, I had the joy of capturing a family portrait session on North Wildwood Beach, and, spoiler alert, it involved some serious cuteness. Imagine this: a little girl with fiery red hair in a whimsical lavender dress, dancing and twirling in front of the ocean breeze. Talk about making every moment memorable. But this wasn’t just about capturing a cute outfit—it was about capturing her. Her personality. Her joy. Her love for life (and the beach).
A charming moment captured in Wildwood, with a young girl in a lavender dress standing against the backdrop of the iconic roller coaster. Her joyful expression contrasts beautifully with the excitement of the amusement park, making for a fun and lively beach portrait.
Why North Wildwood is the Perfect Backdrop for Family Photos
Photographers are always hunting for beautiful backdrops, and North Wildwood is a goldmine. The beaches here are the epitome of serene beauty, with glowing sunsets and sandy stretches that make every family look like they're living in a postcard. For this shoot, we didn’t just want to snap a few nice photos—we aimed to create a laid-back, fun atmosphere where the family could relax and be themselves. And guess what? It worked. The magic in these photos came from the family's natural bond, their laughs, and the playful moments that unfolded as we strolled along the beach.
A joyful moment captured in Wildwood as a young girl twirls in her dress, smiling brightly. The iconic roller coaster adds a touch of excitement to the scene, perfectly blending the fun of the beach and amusement park atmosphere.
Lavender Dresses & Wind in the Hair – Meet Our Star of the Day
Now, let’s talk about that little redhead in her lavender dress. I’m still smiling just thinking about her. She was a ball of energy, and the contrast between her vibrant hair and the calm beach was nothing short of stunning. Her dress? Perfection. It swirled in the breeze and gave the photos that extra touch of whimsy. She wasn’t just a model for the day—she was the star. Each time she spun around, I snapped, and each moment felt like magic. It was like watching a fairy tale unfold on the beach, minus the pumpkins (but there were lanterns, and that’s close enough).
A peaceful beach scene where a redhead girl in a lavender dress gently holds a lantern, the soft glow adding warmth to the cool tones of the ocean behind her. The serene atmosphere captures the magic of the moment.
How to Keep Kids Engaged for Natural Family Photos
As any photographer (especially those of us at the Jersey Shore) will tell you, kids aren’t exactly known for standing still and posing on command. But the trick is simple: let them be themselves. For this session, I let the little redhead lead the way. Twirl? Sure. Run in the sand? Absolutely. Every giggle, every moment of joy, was caught on camera, and the best part? It felt like we were just hanging out at the beach, not “posing.” No stiff smiles here—just pure, spontaneous fun.
A moment of pure movement as the wind sweeps through the girl's lavender dress, creating a dynamic and graceful scene by the ocean. Her hair flows freely, embodying the natural beauty of the shore.
A Little Magic with Lanterns
Now, here’s my favorite pro tip for beach photo shoots: bring lanterns. Sure, they add a little whimsical charm, but they also give kids something to hold so they’re not standing awkwardly in front of the camera. Plus, they make for some pretty magical photos. Just imagine: a twirling redhead, a lantern in hand, the golden hour sun behind her. Cue dramatic music.
A joyful moment of pure childhood bliss as the girl plays on the beach in Wildwood, NJ. She’s fully in the moment, embracing the freedom and fun of a perfect day by the ocean.
The Fun in the Challenges
If you’re a parent, you know that photo sessions with little ones can sometimes feel like herding cats. But in my experience, the best photos come when you just embrace the chaos. Sure, getting a little sand on your shoes and a few wet feet in the ocean might happen, but it’s all part of the fun. And let’s be honest, it adds authenticity. After all, family photos should reflect the real, messy, beautiful moments of life. That’s what makes them unforgettable. And that’s exactly what we got with this shoot.
Under the twilight sky, a girl holds a lantern as the ocean gently laps at the shore behind her. The serene beauty of the beach and the soft glow of the lantern create a magical, peaceful atmosphere.
Post-Shoot Reflections: The Power of Family & Fun
After the shoot, as the sun dipped below the horizon and the last of the light turned the beach into a soft glow, I couldn’t help but feel grateful. I wasn’t just a photographer that day—I was a part of this family’s journey, creating memories that would be cherished forever. The laughter, the twirling, the candid moments… They’re all captured in these photos, forever etched in the sands of North Wildwood.
I told her to get in the water. She’s like YEEEES! They can be so much fun!
And I can’t help but feel that I’ve gained a new favorite beach memory—and a new redhead to remember for years to come. (Sorry, kiddo, you’re stuck in my memory bank!)

Final Thoughts: Why I Love Photographing Families on the Jersey Shore
At the end of the day, it’s not about the perfect pose—it’s about the real moments. And Wildwood? Wildwood is the perfect place to let those moments unfold. From the playful waves to the endless sand to the gorgeous sunsets, this beach provides the ideal stage for families to laugh, love, and be their true selves. And as a photographer, I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Enchanting Locations for Princess Photo Sessions in Philadelphia & NJ
A curated look at enchanting locations for princess portrait sessions, blending fine art children’s photography with imagination and storytelling.
Some locations feel like they were designed for imagination.
Princess portrait sessions are never just about dresses or crowns — they’re about placing a child into a setting that allows her to step fully into a story. Over the years, I’ve photographed princess portraits across Philadelphia and New Jersey in locations that feel timeless, cinematic, and quietly magical.
This post is a look at some of my favorite places to create those moments — locations that naturally support storytelling, movement, and wonder without feeling staged or overwhelming.
Fonthill Castle
Tucked away in Bucks County, Fonthill Castle feels like a European fairytale hidden in plain sight. Its stone architecture, arched windows, towers, and unexpected details make it one of the most immersive locations I’ve ever photographed.
The castle grounds allow children to explore, twirl, and play while still feeling grounded in a real, historic setting. The light here is especially beautiful in the afternoon, wrapping softly around the stone and creating depth without harsh shadows.
It’s a location that doesn’t require much imagination — the story is already there.
Horticulture Center at Fairmount Park
For a softer, garden-inspired princess setting, the Horticulture Center offers a beautiful balance of elegance and nature. With manicured gardens, winding paths, and a Victorian-style gazebo, it provides a dreamy backdrop that feels refined without being formal.
One of the things I love most about this location is its flexibility. Seasonal blooms change the feel throughout the year, and the mix of indoor and outdoor spaces allows sessions to feel calm and unhurried.
It’s especially lovely for children who gravitate toward graceful, classic princess styles.
Private Farm Settings in South Jersey
Private farms offer a completely different kind of magic — quiet, open, and grounded in nature. Wooden fences, open fields, and golden-hour light create a setting that feels peaceful and intimate.
These locations allow for movement and imagination without distraction. Flower crowns, flowing gowns, and gentle storytelling feel natural here, especially for children who enjoy softer, earth-inspired princess themes.
Because these are private locations, sessions feel relaxed and personal — no crowds, no rushing.
Flower Fields Throughout the Seasons
Floral fields bring their own kind of fairytale energy, changing with the seasons and offering endlessly different moods.
Tulip Fields
Spring tulip fields feel bright, joyful, and storybook-perfect. Rows of color create a vibrant backdrop that feels whimsical and celebratory.
Wildflower & Peony Fields
Wildflowers and peonies feel softer and more romantic, lending themselves beautifully to movement, curiosity, and quiet moments. These fields create images that feel painterly and timeless.
Sunflower Fields
Late summer sunflower fields glow with warmth and richness. The scale and color create a regal, golden atmosphere that feels especially cinematic.
Each field tells a different story — and choosing the right one helps shape the overall feel of the session.
Why Location Matters for Princess Portraits
The right location does more than look beautiful. It allows children to relax, explore, and truly engage with the experience. When a setting feels natural and inspiring, expressions soften, movement becomes effortless, and portraits begin to feel like moments rather than poses.
A Thoughtful Approach to Princess Portraits
Princess portrait sessions are designed to be immersive, playful, and deeply personal. From couture gowns to carefully chosen locations, every detail is meant to support a child’s confidence and creativity — not rush it.
Princess sessions are part of my larger children’s portrait work, where imagination and fine art come together in a calm, intentional way.

A Princess Photoshoot at Fonthill Castle in Doylestown, Pennsylvania
A look back at a fairytale princess photoshoot at Fonthill Castle, blending imagination, fine art children’s portraits, and timeless storytelling.
When I was a kid, I used to dress up in my grandmother’s clothes. I’d disappear into her walk-in closet, try on heels far too big for my feet, swipe a little lipstick from her vanity, and parade around her bedroom feeling like royalty. I didn’t need a castle — imagination did the rest.
That feeling never really left me.
This post is a look back at some of my favorite princess portrait sessions photographed at Fonthill Castle — a location that has inspired my work for years and continues to feel like something straight out of a storybook.
Why Fonthill Castle Feels Like a Real-Life Fairytale
There’s something rare about discovering a place that instantly transports you. Fonthill Castle has that effect. Tucked away in Pennsylvania, it feels unexpectedly European — dramatic stonework, archways, towers, and details you don’t normally associate with a local setting.
It’s one of those locations where you don’t need to “create” magic. It’s already there.
I’m drawn to places that allow children to step fully into imagination, and Fonthill does that effortlessly. The grounds feel cinematic, timeless, and quietly enchanting without ever feeling overdone.
Architecture That Sparks Imagination
Built by Henry Chapman Mercer, the castle’s architecture blends Gothic, Byzantine, and Renaissance influences. Every angle offers texture, scale, and visual interest — from towering walls to intricate windows and unexpected details.
I love photographing the full structure as well as smaller moments tucked into the space — especially the stained glass windows I lovingly call the “peppermint windows.” They add color and character without overpowering the subject.
For princess portraits, this kind of architecture gives children space to play, twirl, explore, and truly feel like they’re part of something extraordinary.
Gardens, Grounds, and Light
Behind the castle, the gardens and surrounding grounds add softness and balance to the stone exterior. In warmer months, the space comes alive — greenery, winding paths, and pockets of quiet that feel almost secret.
The afternoon light here is especially beautiful. It wraps gently, creating depth and dimension without harsh shadows. It’s the kind of light that lets children relax, move naturally, and simply enjoy the experience.
On summer evenings, you can hear frogs chirping near the pond — my daughter calls it the “princess moat.” It’s those little moments that make sessions here feel immersive rather than staged.
More Than a Photoshoot — An Experience
Princess sessions have always been about more than photographs for me. They’re about experience.
From couture gowns to delicate tiaras, everything is designed to help children feel confident, imaginative, and celebrated. Watching their faces light up when they see the dresses — and then seeing how they move once they’re wearing them — never gets old.
Some children are bold and dramatic. Others are soft and shy. Every personality shines differently, and that’s what makes these sessions so special.
A Location That Leaves a Lasting Impression
Fonthill Castle does require a permit, but it’s well worth it. It’s a place that leaves an imprint — not just visually, but emotionally. Years later, families still talk about how their child felt during their session here.
I’ve photographed many locations across the region, but Fonthill remains one of the most memorable. It’s a space where imagination feels natural, where children can step into a story, and where portraits feel timeless rather than trendy.
Doing what a princess does, holding her crown!

Holding Onto a Little Magic
Princess portraits are ultimately about honoring childhood — that brief, beautiful season where imagination runs freely and wonder comes easily. Sessions like these aren’t about perfection. They’re about joy, play, and letting kids be exactly who they are in that moment.
Fonthill Castle continues to be one of those rare places where everything aligns — setting, light, emotion, and story — and I’m always grateful for the opportunity to create there.

One of the primary reasons Broad Street stands out for photo shoots is its stunning cityscape. Stretching from South Philadelphia to North Philadelphia, Broad Street offers a blend of modern and historic architecture. The street is lined with impressive landmarks such as Philadelphia City Hall, the Academy of Music, and the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts. These grand structures provide a beautiful and varied architectural backdrop that will make your photos truly stand out.

2. The Avenue of the Arts: A Creative Atmosphere
Broad Street’s reputation as the Avenue of the Arts is another reason it’s a sought-after photo shoot destination. This stretch of the street is home to Philadelphia’s leading cultural institutions, including renowned theaters, concert halls, and art galleries. The energy and artistic vibe of this area make it an excellent location for creative photo shoots that reflect Philadelphia’s artistic spirit.
Whether you're capturing a portrait in front of the Wilma Theater or showcasing your family in front of the bright lights of the Merriam Theater, the Avenue of the Arts provides a setting that's both sophisticated and artistic. For families looking for a blend of culture and beauty, this is the place to be.

3. Broad Street’s Width and Perspective: Dramatic Views
As one of the widest streets in Philadelphia, Broad Street offers a unique advantage for photographers. The wide expanse of the street creates a sense of openness and grandeur, making it perfect for capturing dramatic perspectives. Whether you’re photographing a family session with the skyline as the backdrop or capturing leading lines that draw the viewer’s eye into the distance, the street’s wide lanes allow for creative freedom.
The perspective of the street also lends itself well to incorporating the iconic Philadelphia skyline, creating a sense of place and giving your photos that quintessential Philadelphia feel. When you work with a photographer in South Jersey, it’s these expansive views that set your photos apart and make them stand out.
4. Historical Significance: Celebrate the Past
Broad Street is not just a pretty backdrop—it’s also steeped in historical significance. As a traditional route for parades, processions, and civic events, this street holds a special place in the hearts of Philadelphians. From the annual Mummers Parade to celebrations for Philadelphia’s championship sports teams, Broad Street has witnessed countless iconic moments throughout history.
By choosing Broad Street for your Philadelphia photo shoot, you’re not just capturing a moment in time—you’re connecting with the city’s rich history and celebratory atmosphere. This adds a layer of depth and meaning to your photos that’s hard to replicate anywhere else.

Broad Street is bustling with activity, especially during peak hours. The energy of urban life—the hustle and bustle of pedestrians, cars, and cyclists—adds a dynamic and lively element to your photos. The vibrant street life can provide a sense of movement and excitement, perfectly capturing the essence of city living.
This is particularly great for those who want to inject some energy into their photos. Imagine a birthday photo shoot or a family photo session with the vibrant Philadelphia street life adding an extra layer of charm to the images. For families in nearby towns like Haddon Township NJ, Collingswood, and Mullica Hill, a session in the heart of Philadelphia provides an exciting contrast to the more tranquil, suburban settings.

6. Photographing Broad Street: Tips for the Best Shots

Near City Hall: The stately architecture and wide streets provide an imposing and formal atmosphere.
Avenue of the Arts: The theaters, art galleries, and cultural landmarks add an artistic vibe to your photos.
The Heart of Broad Street: Capture the city’s energy and vibrant street life by incorporating pedestrians and traffic into your shots.
