A Pat’s Steaks Versus Geno’s Steaks— Photoshoot
Pat's VS Geno's Steaks: A Philly Tradition!
Is this really a thing to compare?
It’s hard to think about Philadelphia without imagining two iconic cheesesteak joints—Pat’s King of Steaks and Geno’s Steaks. These two legends have been battling it out across the street from each other for decades, and while this may seem like a classic Philly debate, I had the pleasure of capturing the cheesesteak showdown during a photo shoot years ago (time flies, right?). But hey, even five years later, this moment is still classic.
It is funny to see the little girl checking out my model at Pat’s Steaks in the background. She’s ready to dive into the whiz.
Two Traditions, One Street
Pat’s King of Steaks and Geno’s Steaks are as Philly as it gets. You’ve got the original on one side (Pat’s), and then the “louder” competitor on the other (Geno’s). It’s not just the cheesesteaks that are competing—it’s the lights, the atmosphere, and the sheer energy of these two spots. Pat’s, founded by Pat Olivieri in 1930, is credited with creating the iconic cheesesteak. Geno’s, founded in 1966 by Joey Vento, came in with a bigger, bolder take on the Philly classic. And let’s be real, the neon lights over at Geno’s have always been a bit louder, too.
She’s trying not to show it, but she said it was delicious. She’s wearing Neon Kisses too. They rock as far as designers go.
The Cheesesteak Showdown: Which One Wins?
When it comes to deciding who reigns supreme—Pat’s or Geno’s—it’s all about personal taste. Do you want the traditional, OG cheesesteak from Pat’s with Cheez Whiz, or do you crave the larger portions and slightly different flavor profile from Geno’s, with their Provolone? It’s a Philly dilemma that many have debated for years.
For me, the winner’s clear. Geno’s is where my heart (and stomach) landed, especially when I watched one of the kids dive in so fast, it was like she couldn’t even wait for the photo op! Seriously, that cheesesteak smelled so good.

Wit Wiz or Wit Out?
And then, there’s the classic debate—wit or wit out? It’s more than just cheese. It’s a statement, a way of life in Philly. Some say it’s worth getting into a fistfight over, but hey, it’s all in good fun, right? Of course, Philly has a ton of other amazing cheesesteak spots, but for many, Pat’s and Geno’s are the heart of the matter. Plus, they’re open 24/7, 365 days a year, so you can always count on them for that midnight cheesesteak craving.
The Photo Shoot Fun
And she’s off.. Ready to eat it!
I could not get her to model for me after this. She said it was too good. It was devoured.
Passyunk Street Posing and having fun!
For this photo shoot, we ventured to South Philly to let these little ladies decide which cheesesteak reigned supreme. As you can see, there was no holding back, and one cheesesteak was devoured in record time. We even had a blast walking around, checking out the neon graffiti lights, dabbing for the camera, and just enjoying a fun, carefree evening in Philly. Neon Kisses designer duds? Check. Great company? Check. Cheesesteaks? Double check.
It was one of those magical days, filled with good vibes and great food, and I’d love to capture those kinds of moments for your family, too. If you’re looking for a unique, fun photography experience, let’s chat! I’ll help you create the perfect family session, filled with laughter, memories, and, of course, delicious moments.
We took a trip to the art mural down the street which is electrifying. It is pretty cool.

Creating Memories Beyond the Cheesesteak
What I love most about these sessions is that they aren’t just about the photos—they’re about the whole experience. It's about seeing your kids’ faces light up while taking a bite of a cheesesteak, running through the streets of South Philly, and making memories that will last a lifetime. That’s what I do—capture those moments that are filled with joy, laughter, and a bit of adventure.
So whether it’s a fun Philly food adventure or a special family moment you want to preserve, I’m here for it. Let’s create something magical together.
Until We Meet Again!
Happy Shooting,
Who was the champion among these children? Was it Pat's or was it Geno's Steaks?
