Step 1: Conceptualizing the Magic (aka Figuring Out What Makes Her Her)

The first thing we need to talk about: what kind of princess are we working with? Does she have a secret identity as a fairy-tale queen, or is she all about that Frozen life? It's essential that we vibe on the idea of her personality and favorite characters before even touching a camera. Sometimes, I feel like a detective, solving the mystery of which princess should rule her kingdom... but, y’know, with glitter.

Step 2: Assembling the Perfect Princess Wardrobe (Princesses Deserve Options)

Listen, this is her moment. As much as I love helping pick out the perfect dress (yes, I will totally get lost in the sparkles), it’s important she feels like herself. So, I always encourage my princesses to get involved. Is she into puffed sleeves? Does she want to wear a gown fit for a ball? Or is she more of a casual princess who likes to twirl in comfort? Whatever it is, we’ll have plenty of options – all comfortable enough to dance, jump, or even leap tall castles in a single bound (metaphorically, of course).

Plus, it’s hilarious to watch them try them on and pick which one makes them feel the most regal.

Okay, we need a backdrop that says "fairy tale" without overshadowing the main star of the show – the birthday girl. Give Me Your Babies! (Figuratively, of Course)

Yep, I said it: babies, ALL the babies! Their squish, their cheeks, their laughter, even their little baby tushies—I love it all. Babies are pure magic, from their infectious giggles to that fresh “I’m new here” smell (minus the messy diaper moments). They’re tiny bundles of personality just starting to figure out the big, wide world, and I adore capturing every second of it.

A Memorable Session with a Magical Spot

About two weeks ago, I had the honor of photographing a little blue-eyed cutie who stole my heart (and the camera). I’d been waiting to use this adorable fall outfit I purchased, and it was a perfect match for this session. Mom was thrilled with the selection, and we picked a location that’s near and dear to my heart: an old railroad line turned bike path in Blackwood, Camden County.

The centerpiece of this spot is a gorgeous bridge that I lovingly call the “magical bridge.” No matter the season, the light there is perfection. Fun fact: I photographed at this same location three years ago when I was just starting out. It felt extra special to return with this family’s newest addition.

And guess what? We got lucky with a warm, sunny 68-degree February day (thanks, Mother Nature)! The combination of perfect light, an adorable baby, and a beautiful location made for some stunning portraits.
