Spring Flower Portraits in the Delaware Valley (NJ, PA & DE Bloom Guide)

Every year I tell myself I’m going to “be on top of spring.”

A child walks through a glowing field at sunset during a South Jersey family photography session, capturing the carefree feeling of spring portraits.

And every year… I blink and cherry blossoms are gone, tulips are halfway dead, and I’m yelling at my calendar like HOW IS IT MAY ALREADY??

Spring is rude like that.

Which is exactly why these sessions have become such a thing—because if you don’t plan for them, you miss them. And if you do catch them? It’s honestly some of the prettiest, most effortless photos you’ll ever have of your kids.

No bribing. No forcing smiles. Just… running through flowers like tiny feral humans. My specialty.

🌿 Where We’ll Be (aka me chasing blooms across 3 states)

A young child twirls in a soft pink dress during a wildflower field portrait session in the Delaware Valley, highlighting natural and relaxed family photography.

I’ll basically be living in my car for two months chasing whatever is blooming 😂

We’ll be shooting throughout:

  • South Jersey (Cherry Hill, Haddonfield, Mullica Hill… all my usual spots)

  • Philadelphia + surrounding suburbs

  • Northern Delaware

  • A few Central Jersey locations depending on blooms

I go where the flowers are good. That’s the rule.

🌸 What’s Blooming (and why it matters)

Here’s the thing—every flower gives a completely different vibe. So if you’ve ever said “I want something soft” vs “I want color”… this is where that actually matters.

Early Spring (the “omg this is dreamy” phase)

  • Cherry Blossoms

  • Pear Blossoms

  • Dogwoods

This is your soft, pastel, angelic child era. Everything looks light and glowy and like you have your life together (even if you absolutely do not).

Mid-Spring (color starts showing off)

  • Tulips

  • Wisteria

More color, more drama, still pretty. This is where moms start texting me like “wait I want BOTH.”

Late Spring → Early Summer (my personal favorite chaos)

  • Lavender

  • Purple Vetch

  • Cornflowers

  • Crimson Clover

This is the wild child phase. Nothing is too posed, kids can move, and everything feels more natural and free.

Summer (golden, bold, a little sweaty but worth it)

  • Sunflowers

  • Black-Eyed Susans

  • Zinnias

  • Dahlias

These are bright, happy, and very “core childhood memory unlocked.”

⏳ Here’s the part no one tells you

These blooms do not care about your schedule.

Not your husband’s work schedule.
Not your kid’s soccer.
Not your hair appointment.

They show up… and then they’re gone in like 1–2 weeks.

Which means:

  • Dates are always a little flexible

  • I sometimes panic-text about peak bloom windows 😅

  • And once it hits, sessions go FAST

It’s a little chaotic. But in a fun way. I promise.

✨ What these sessions actually feel like

I know “mini session” can sound like:
👉 rushed
👉 stressful
👉 everyone sweating and yelling

This is not that.

These are:

  • relaxed

  • guided but not stiff

  • a mix of “stand here for one second” and “okay go run wild”

Also:

  • I help with outfits (huge)

  • I keep things moving so kids don’t melt down

  • And I know exactly when to grab the real moments in between

🌸 If you’re thinking about it…

Pick your favorite flowers.

Or don’t… and book two. (A lot of families do and I fully support that level of commitment 😂)

Just don’t wait until everything is already blooming and expect options—because that’s when my inbox turns into chaos.

🌿 Final thought (and I mean this)

These are the sessions people come back to every single year.

Not because they’re trendy.
Not because they’re “perfect.”

But because your kids change… fast.

And somehow these flowers always show up right in the middle of it.

These flower field portrait sessions are part of my seasonal offerings each year.
