NJ Communion Photography Sessions- A South Jersey Tradition
It is hard to believe that this little lady was not having it as part of this session. She smiled and came through and had a fun time! I love capturing first holy communion portraits. Hands down it’s a great rite of passage and something to truly celebrate! This photo session we actually did at the Shoemaker School in Woodstown NJ. They have a cute little garden courtyard and then we headed over to the Woodstown High School as they have a meadow area that looks gorgeous at sunset!

First Holy Communions Are Important!
Capturing first holy communion sessions in New Jersey is of utmost importance for both families and photographers alike. The first holy communion holds a special place in a young child's life, symbolizing their initiation into the Catholic faith. It is a significant milestone, marking their commitment to their religious beliefs. These sessions provide a unique opportunity for families to preserve this momentous occasion and create lasting memories.
Photographers play a crucial role in capturing the joy, innocence, and spiritual significance of the event, ensuring that these precious moments are frozen in time. In New Jersey, with its rich religious heritage and cultural diversity, the tradition of first holy communion is deeply cherished. The photographs taken during these sessions hold immense sentimental value, enabling families to revisit and relive this extraordinary day for generations to come.
It's that time of year when you start to think ahead! I have had the honor of doing a few communion sessions since I started this journey! I love showcasing this pivotal and important time in a young lady's or young man's life! It's a passage of life for most families that has been around for generations. Last spring, I had the opportunity to photograph this little girl. It was a cold day! However, we managed. Believe it or not, we did this in the garden courtyard of the Mary Shoemaker School in Woodstown, NJ.
And the session continues on...
In prayer for her first holy communion session.
Picking tulips and taking her First Holy Communion Portraits.
Love getting close-ups of the littles!
Picking tulips during her beautiful spring holy communion session.
There's a lovely courtyard garden that gets pretty kept up on the grounds with beautiful blooming tulips and daffodils come spring. As you can see, the light was magnificent this day. It's what I am all about! YUMMY DELICIOUS LIGHT.
Having Fun AND Getting Professional Communion Portraits is what is all about.
This little lady was freezing cold, but she persevered! Woodstown has some great location options. Everything from rustic to cute little gardens, to the beautiful downtown area. I truly love where I live and I have lived all over South Jersey (even in PA). I find the folks my way to be extremely kind! It's the best place I have ever lived! After our little garden patch photos, we then headed down to the Woodstown High School area as there is a nice rustic field with gorgeous light that resides near the stream.
I need to shoot here more as it is even within walking distance of my own house! I love utilizing places that are near and dear to me. For myself, I believe full sessions allow me to get to know my subjects. I believe they tend to go more smoothly as there is time to warm up. Believing in magical things are what I want my clients to see in the end product. My photographs are magical. I like to see the world this way.

The Shooting Star Grounds in Woodstown, NJ!
It doesn't matter what time of day it is... the light is ALWAYS gorgeous here at our Shooting Star South Jersey grounds!!! We get filtered sunlight with the 40 or so trees on the property. You can shoot in high afternoon sun and it still will be perfect. It's pretty crazy, but is one of the reasons we purchased our property.I was born and raised in Camden County until I was fourteen and spent my youth exploring the Delaware River, then onto Burlington County where I honestly thought all there was to do was to play in cornfields (boy, has a lot of development occurred since then... Mt. Laurel has been built up quite a bit!)

In my adult years, I spent about 6-7 years living in PA.. .then back to Burlington County, then Atlantic County, and now currently Salem County. I think this is one of the reasons I know South Jersey so well. I've honestly lived everywhere. When my son was born, I set out to explore South Jersey even more and this is when I truly feel in love with it. I never ever wanted to leave ever again. I have traveled all of the world, but there's nothing like being back HOME. It's pretty incredible how you can be in the mountains, the beach, the Pine Barrens, the city, even the Big Apple (NYC) within a 1-2 hour time frame.
With all this exploring, I started a traveling blog on places to see in South Jersey. That blew up like crazy (and yes, I need to get back at it). I then went on to write and published two books! It was through my love of traveling and posting it to the blog, when I fell in love with photography. I started to get serious into it... I learned my camera. Learned to shoot in manual. Learned framing and all about shooting at certain times of day. It wasn't until my daughter was born that I decided to try photographing people... and boy that was a HUGE switch. It's totally different than landscape photography!
Photography Journey
It's like starting all over again, but that's what is fun about this field... YOU NEVER STOP LEARNING :)It was through my travels in South Jersey, that I discovered Salem County. I wrote a book on the beautiful county and from then on.. I wanted to live here. After searching numerous homes, and actually had a contract on another residence, that we found our dream home. The minute I saw my backyard, I had to have this house! We put an offer that night and it was accepted! And so here we are! Terraced gardens, the changing and colors of the seasons, the consistent sun-filled and shaded stunning light. The stream that runs along our property. It's truly a dream come true.Since I live here, I know when the sun is best and have photographed here out of any other location. I'm able to push it's limits. Now, if the garden and stream isn't enough... I have an alleyway across the street, which has been some of my greatest shots to date, I live on a dead end street and the sun sets at the end of the street... And in 1/4 mile in opposite directions from one another I have a park with a stream, meadow, beautiful bridge and another garden... the other direction a gorgeous meadow and cornfields. It's truly the best location and I feel BLESSED that I can offer these places to my customers!!
So, if you ever want a private garden, a stream, an alley and meadow for your photographs and also a private location... Well, I'm your girl!As you see, just utilizing my property can offer so much! Light can make or break a photo and we have gorgeous light here
!You want to hear something pretty funny? About HALF, yes HALF, of the photographs in the portfolio are taken in and around the studio grounds!!!
Happy Shooting, South Jersey!

Engagement Session
This was my first engagement session and there was quite a twist with this one... the fiancé broke his foot! He was in a cast so this made this session just a bit more challenging than most, but what do you know? I LOVE a challenge... bring it on! I always seem to work well under pressure. It must be from many deadlines of my corporate days!

This couple came all the way from Marlton to have their session done. I guess in a way, it tells a story. A story of their love even when injured! There are only so many poses you can do with someone with an injured foot, but we made do with the circumstances. He was also in a lot of pain, so it was difficult to move around for different background purposes. However, he said the show must go on and was a big trooper throughout the entire process.
He truly is in love with his new bride-to-be and just wanted to make her happy and he definitely made her happy! This session was last fall and was done here in Salem County in our garden just to make things a little bit easier for the couple in getting around!
There were only certain poses we could do, but we persevered and these will always be memories to look back on, that's for sure! I have to say this was a first though! I tried rescheduling the session for when he maybe felt a little better and rested and healed, but he didn't want to hear it! That's a sport right there, ladies and gentlemen!I wish these two all the best in their upcoming wedding this year! These two are perfect for one another! They're also marrying in one of my favorite months :)
Happy Shooting, my friends!
