Wow, can you believe summer is officially coming to an end? This Labor Day weekend brought a crisp change in the air, with temperatures dipping into the upper 60s—sweater weather already! But let's be real, being a photographer isn't always as glamorous as it seems. I mean, have you ever tried carrying around a heavy camera bag all day? Or dealing with clients who insist on doing those cheesy poses from Pinterest?

And let's not forget about the weather in the Philly area. One minute it's sunny and beautiful, the next minute it's pouring rain and your hair is a mess. But hey, that's just part of the job, right?

Speaking of clients, I've had some interesting ones in my time. Like the couple who wanted to recreate the lift from Dirty Dancing. I mean, sure, why not? Or the family who brought their pet llama to the shoot. Talk about a unique prop!

It really isn’t a joke, but hey you can laugh… go ahead. New Jersey is the butt of many jokes in the US.

Many people think of parking lots, shopping malls, the Jersey Shore, industrial complexes and pollution when they think of New Jersey, but boy… they are wrong (and let them think that). Shhh. 

We have some of the top ranked schools in the country (hence, there are really high property taxes), bleh on that because they are almost one of the highest in the country. However, there is a reason why it is the Garden State. 

Last of the evening and enjoying the fields. I love just playing at our sessions. They are always so much fun. Dalton Farms NEVER disappoints whether you want to pick tulips, sunflowers or dance around the wildflower field, they always have something in bloom!

Our soil… for one, has some of the best nutrients in the country. That and location/average temperatures, adequate rainfall, can produce some beautiful vegetation. Which is what brings us here to these tulip sessions we did at Dalton Farms!

That “vegetation” is what I like to showcase in my images. From flower fields, flower gardens, to hay fields, I got you covered! 

For this instance, this was at Dalton Farms tulip farm in Swedesboro, New Jersey. Quick and easy access from Philadelphia and Delaware and right off of 295. This is a farm that seems to grow and have more offerings year after year. However, not always extremely packed and room to breathe. (Not a crazy tourist trap) which is nice!

This year we set out on spring break! It was wonderful that peak bloom fell on this week! We were able to go on a cloudy day, which makes for gorgeous images, when shooting in an open field area. It also helps to beat the crowds! Duh, doesn’t everyone want to avoid crowds?

Well, just look at the results that we posted. I don’t think I need to say anything much further. Afterwards, we picked some tulips to bring home and got done just in time before the rain! Happy Birthday Shooting Star Photography!!!

It’s my birthday today. Blessed for everything. Blessed for my clients, my life and my children. However, today, I’m realizing that I don’t have enough family photos. I have my children captured every few months, but am lacking on myself getting in front of the camera with them. You know why? I am just as self conscious as most of my clients are. 

The only professional photo that I like of myself. We photographers don’t get much time in front of the camera.

I am always wanting to drop those last few pounds or don’t feel pretty enough.  A great photographer will make those insecurities go away and feel beautiful. Our family sessions are our specialty. In fact, most of the sessions we do and service in the South Jersey and Philadelphia region are family sessions. Family sessions are very important to capture. Our children grow so quickly and it’s truly important to capture these fleeting moments with our children.

I know sometimes we don’t feel skinny or the best in shape, at the moment, but I am telling you, our kids don’t care. They want photographs to look back on with their families. There is nothing better than seeing yourself, with your family, hung up high in your home. Studies have actually shown that it boosts self esteem in our children. It helps children grow strong and gives them a boost of confidence.

Allowing them to actually visualize and see themselves, help them with a stronger presence and strength.  Let’s face it, a family photo, tells a story. It honors the memories cherished together.
