A mermaid photo session is a themed photo shoot where a person dresses up as a mermaid and poses for photos in an underwater or beach setting. Mermaid Checklist for a beautiful Photo Shoot!
We choose a beautiful location: New Jersey has many beautiful beaches and water bodies that would make an ideal location for a mermaid photo session. Look for a location that has clear blue water and picturesque scenery. I have many options for your disposal.
We Find the perfect mermaid outfit: To make the photo session fun and exciting, I have the perfect mermaid outfits. I have a tail that matches the location and complements every child’s skin tone. I even have mommy and teen tails. I also include accessories like a seashell bra or a seashell crowns to complete the look.
Shooting Star Photography can help capture the essence of the photo session and make sure that the photos turn out great. We have been shooting mermaids since 2017 and we wish to ensure that you get the best shots possible.
We have fun and are creative: Once I have everything set up, it's time to have some fun and be creative. We play around with different poses and expressions to capture the perfect shot. I also add in some props like a trident, a fork, or a pearl necklace to make the photos more interesting.

These mermaid tails are specifically crafted from a bathing suit-like fabric and are designed to be worn over different sizes of mono-fins, which the photographer possesses in various sizes.

Firstly, the photographer enjoys traveling to Hawaii and finds great joy in capturing beautiful moments with their mermaid friends and family. This includes their two little girls, who also partake in the enchanting world of mermaids. Moreover, the photographer once had the special opportunity to photograph an entire mermaid family, further emphasizing the necessity of having a diverse range of tails available.

3. What are the mermaid tails made of?
The mermaid tails are crafted using a fabric resembling that of a bathing suit, carefully designed to cover and fit snugly over a variety of mono-fins. These tails are available in different sizes and cater to different age groups, including baby tails, children's tails, and even ones specifically designed for expecting mothers. Additionally, there is even a special mermaid tail available, which is designed to perfectly encase and complement the mono-fin. A wide range of mono-fin sizes are also provided, ensuring a suitable fit for every individual.
4. Can I apply make-up before the photo session?
Certainly! Applying make-up before the photo session is completely up to the parents' discretion. If you choose to have make-up applied, you have the option to hire a professional make-up artist who will be available for your child's Fairy portrait at an additional fee paid directly to the make-up artist. Please note that I do not supply lipstick unless the make-up artist has been booked. Some young children become quite excited about their photo sessions when they are allowed to use "Mommy's Lipstick" or wear their own glitter lipstick. For mothers, if your own make-up is important to you, please ensure that you are also "camera-ready." If time permits, I always try to capture at least one Mother/Daughter image during the shoot, if desired. This will create a fun memory and there is no extra charge for it. Please let me know in advance if you would like to include this in your session or not.
5. Can my child have temporary tattoos or stamps on their body?
Certainly! It is recommended that your child does not have any temporary tattoos or stamps on their body before our scheduled Fairy Photo Session. While many children, including my own, enjoy temporary tattoos and stamps, it would be best to avoid applying them on your child's arms or legs for this occasion. Even though it is common for dance and gymnastics teachers to apply stamps without asking, it would be ideal if any visible stamps, paint, or temporary tattoos could be removed or washed off before the photo session. This will help us capture beautiful images without the need for extra photo-editing to remove them from the final artwork.
6. Are warm clothes to change into necessary?
Yes, it is necessary to pack warm clothes to change into for your child during the Mermaid Session. In case the weather gets colder, especially if fog rolls in or we photograph the session before sunset, having warm clothes available is essential. Leggings can be worn under the Mermaid Tail for added warmth, particularly if it's really cold outside. It is recommended to choose tighter fitting leggings as they work best to keep your child warm. Additionally, bringing a hooded sweatshirt or sweater, preferably one with a zipper or buttons, allows for easy wrapping around your child without having to go over their head. This ensures they stay cozy if the temperature drops unexpectedly at Northern Californian Beaches. We also provide breaks during the session where your child can warm up if needed. Therefore, packing warm clothes to change into is important to keep your child comfortable throughout the Mermaid Session.
7. Can my child wear jewelry for the session?
Yes, your child can absolutely wear jewelry for the session! If your child has any special preferences for Mermaid related jewelry, feel free to bring or have them wear it during the session. Along with my assortment of seashell crowns and other related styled props, I am also open to incorporating any personal jewelry your child may have.
8. What should I wear for a mermaid photo session?
For a mermaid photo session, it is important to choose the right attire to enhance the magical and beachy vibe. Here are some suggestions on what you should wear:
Bikini Bottoms: It is a must to wear bikini bottoms as they serve as the foundation for the mermaid tail. Avoid wearing regular underwear or anything that may make you feel self-conscious since the sessions often take place on public beaches.
Bathing Suit Top: While there are matching tops available, it is recommended to wear your own bathing suit top until the photo session begins. This allows you to feel more comfortable and minimize any self-conscious feelings.
Leggings: If the weather is chilly, you can choose to wear tighter-fitting leggings under the mermaid tail. This will keep you warm, especially if you are posing by the beach and there is a chance of fog or sudden temperature drops.
Hooded Sweatshirt/Sweater: Bringing a hooded sweatshirt or sweater is a good idea, especially if the weather is unpredictable or if you are shooting in a location where the climate can change quickly. Siblings in Wet Suits: If you have siblings who want to participate in the session, it can add a dynamic element to the photoshoot, and even mothers can join in the fun by wearing a matching mermaid tail if desired.

If you miss the designated mermaid photo day, you can still book an anytime session; however, there may be an additional cost to cover the transportation of all the mermaid session accessories. Lastly, no mermaid transformation is complete without a crown. The photographer offers a variety of mermaid crowns, including a stunning abalone, pearls, and seashell crown. It adds a touch of elegance to your mermaid photo session and helps you embody the captivating spirit of the sea.

The cost of a Creative Sitting Fee for a Magical Mermaid session is $200. This fee covers a 60-90 minute session with the photographer, in which they will provide their time and talent. However, it's important to note that the cost of prints, canvases, albums, and digital files is separate and not included in the Sitting Fee. These additional products need to be purchased separately.

Don’t forget to bring:
A towel (to dry off if getting wet).
A two piece bathing suit. You wear the bathing suit bottoms and depending on the top, you can wear or take off based on the preference of the top you choose. We have seashell tops as well as tops that are fabric that go with every single tale. We have colors from greens, to pinks, to blues and purples.
