New Jersey Winter Wonderland Sessions
New Jersey Winter Wonderland Sessions- Capturing the best subjects, with the best light!
This time of year is THE BEST to have a session!!!!! Winter light is extremely soft and pleasing. It makes your skin look soft and beautiful. My subjects look more magical, due to the pastel light. I know it may be a little cold outside, but if you can withstand it, this is honestly the best time to have a session. When you approach the spring and summer months, lighting becomes a bit more harsh, especially in the spring. Spring light can be a bit more difficult to work with as there are no leaves on the trees, so it's hard to filter the light. You sometimes end up with a more harsh light, depending on the location. For winter sessions, we have you covered. From furs, capes, winter dresses... we have it all! The locations we choose in winter are a bit different from our offerings in the spring and summer, due to better lighting conditions this time of year.
Why is a winter photography session the best?
Winter light casts a magical spell on portraits, making them truly enchanting! As the sun hangs low in the sky, its gentle rays filter through the crisp winter air, creating a soft and ethereal glow. The quality of this light during winter is like no other—it's delicate, diffused, and creates a beautiful luminosity on the subjects. Photographing portraits in winter light feels like painting with light brushes, adding a touch of warmth and a hint of romance to every image. The low angle of the sun offers long shadows, adding depth and dimension to the portraits, accentuating the contours of the face and creating a captivating interplay between light and shadow. So, grab your camera, bundle up in cozy layers, and let the winter light work its magic on your portraits!
How are process works: We take care of EVERYTHING. Honestly, all you need to do is show up. I have an assistant (my mom) and we get you dressed, get your headpieces going. Then off to shooting in this beautiful winter light. You tend to find us traveling all over the Delaware Valley Region. From waterfalls, to the pine tree forests.. to city this time of year.We tend to be a stylized emotive storytelling photographer. We kind of sit back and help direct you, but we want you to have real moments between one another. Especially, with families, as that is our goal.
We capture REAL smiles, not the, "say cheese" kind. Every location we choose, we style around it. For example, I am sure you don't want to wear something extremely formal on the beach or black.. it won't look right. You want to go for those pastels, lights, brights.. and jewel tones. Black is more suited for city, or forest conditions. NOW is the time to book your winter session as our spring through fall is booked out. We would love to work with you and give you an amazing photography experience!!!
Happy Shooting, my friends! Dee

THIS IS A CRAZY INDUSTRY- KEEP YOUR HEAD UP
BE THE CHANGE IN WHAT THIS INDUSTRY NEEDS.
I understand art is subjective. However, as artists we are continually critiqued. Some things invoke feeling… unpleasant or pleasant. There is a certain level where one must develop a tough skin… in order to thrive in this business. You need to realize that you won’t always be everyone’s cup of tea.
When it comes to my own work and personality… I laugh at myself ALL THE TIME. It’s just how I am. I laugh at others, I laugh with others. It’s never really mean-spirited. I have so much to grow and if I post something… I want you to laugh. I want you to feel something. It’s okay to laugh at me. I can take it. Among friends, we laugh at each other. You have to laugh in this business.
INVEST IN GOOD MENTORS.
What I am trying to say is this isn’t kindergarten folks. If you are new to this industry… latch onto folks who will build you up. RUN YOUR BUSINESSES PROFESSIONALLY. Treat customers right. Don’t play mind games. Don’t bully and learn to take critique with a grain of salt. However, sometimes in that critique is where you learn to do better. I listen to feedback from my customers all the time, as I truly do want their experience to be one of a kind.
Hire mentors that will help lift you up and not bring you down.. That want to see you continually improve and get better. If you are new and see this sort of behavior… learn to walk away and surround yourself with better teachers and mentors. Follow positive folks. People who uplift others and not knock them down.
And most importantly.. never ever apologize for being YOU. Be the voice of change in this industry. I hope my little me… can eventually do that.. Help this industry to be better… because right now… it’s a sad state of affairs. However, it’s time to be the voice of change and invest in those who are there to help you grow as artists.
Light your pathway, fill up your heart and passion. Keep doing you.

Brotherly Love in the Westville, NJ Meadow Shoot
On a sunny day in Westville, NJ, Shooting Star Photography LLC had the opportunity to capture the pure love between a brother and sister during a meadow shoot. The setting was idyllic, with tall grass gently swaying in the breeze and the golden rays of the sun illuminating the scene. Little did we know that this particular shoot would be filled with surprises and heartwarming moments. The shoot started with excitement and anticipation as the photographer positioned the siblings in the middle of the meadow. The sister, an adorable one-year-old, was visibly hesitant, unsure of what this new experience entailed. Her big brother, a caring and protective young boy, immediately sensed her unease.
Brotherly Love in the Westville Meadow Shoot
As the shutter started clicking, the little girl's discomfort grew more evident. Tears welled up in her eyes, and she clung to her brother for reassurance. Sensing the need to make his sister comfortable, the brother swiftly took action. With a genuine tenderness rarely seen in someone so young, he embraced his sister, soothing her with whispered words of encouragement. His gentle touch and calming presence began to work their magic.
Despite his own youthful age, the big brother understood the importance of cooperation to get the perfect shot. He carefully guided his sister's hands onto his shoulders, showing her how to stand tall and proud amidst the enchanting meadow backdrop. With each gentle instruction, his sister's initial hesitation began to fade away, and a spark of curiosity replaced the tears.
That brotherly love, showcased in every gesture, sparked a transformation in the little girl. I watched in awe as she slowly became more comfortable, her face transforming from one of uncertainty to joy and excitement. It was a testament to the incredible bond they shared — a bond that extends beyond their age difference.
As the shoot progressed, the brother continued to support his sister, encouraging her to explore and engage with her surroundings. His dedication to making her feel safe and secure was unwavering. With every photograph, their connection became more palpable, making for truly memorable and heartwarming moments.
When reviewing the final images, it was evident that the Westville meadow shoot captured more than just picturesque scenery. It captured the unwavering bond between a brother and sister, and how a simple act of love and support can transform an experience. Their connection resonated in every frame, reminding us of the power of family and the incredible depths of sibling love.
In the end, what started as a challenging shoot turned into a beautiful testament to the incredible love that exists between siblings. Shooting Star Photography LLC felt honored to have witnessed and captured the moments that showcased this brother and sister's extraordinary bond. We are certain that these photographs will serve as a treasured reminder of their special connection, and the love that will continue to blossom between them as they grow.
Capture your priceless moments with Shooting Star Photography LLC - where love and memories are forever preserved.
Westville Wheelabrator Site in New Jersey
I love this spot in South Jersey!! It is located in Westville and I absolutely love it!!! This place offers a gorgeous meadow, butterfly garden, forest, trails, a street where no one is allowed to drive on to get your street shots... and beach areas along the Delaware River that would be perfect for a sunset shoot! I can't wait to do it soon!
Every time I come here, I love it more and more and have done two photo shoots here thus far! I discovered this place a few years ago while discovering and learning about our unique history of South Jersey and got to explore what it has to offer! I was literally shocked that just outside the gates is a somewhat urban landscape of Gloucester County/Camden County, yet has all of these offerings. It was like walking into a different world! The first time was with my then 6 month year old son and was only able to travel so far with his stroller.
The second visit, I brought my dog and got to explore some more. I always encounter hundreds of butterflies and even deer when I roam through this wonderful and neat place in Westville.
This session was only a half hour. Mom wanted photos of both kids and a more natural feel and I chose this location due to the proximity of where the client lives.I love that any time I come here it is complete solitude. There is no one around. It's like going back in time!
We got a ton from this session, but sometimes I like to show the bloopers and I did! I truly love working with children and showcasing my unique locations that we have right here in South Jersey! It's like seeing our area through my eyes!I love South Jersey and I've been to every nook and cranny around. I grew up near this place and not once did I ever know about it! It's genuinely a unique treasure in our backyard! You will witness tons of wildlife and the butterflies are UNREAL!!!Who knew Westville, NJ had a place like this!?!?!?!
Happy Shooting, my friends!

What To Wear Tips... By Shooting Star Photography!
What To Wear Tips... By Shooting Star Photography!
It doesn't matter whether you have a family session, maternity session, or a single portrait session, South Jersey... What you wear... MATTERS... MOST.... and it can genuinely make or break your session!
It doesn't matter whether you have a family session, maternity session, or a single portrait session, South Jersey... What you wear... MATTERS... MOST.... and it can genuinely make or break your session!
Normally, people hold onto these photographs for decades so you don't want to look back and say to yourself... "What in the hay was I thinking?" So here are a few tips to get you going! Let me take you back to my decorating days... The color wheel! Fun! Fun! Fun! But guess, what? It makes perfect sense!
Below, are my tips for a flawless shoot!
The Color Wheel...
When choosing your outfit... choose one side.. of this wheel.. If you are doing family photos... stick the the same side... Easy peasy. I would also take into consideration the environment as well. IE.. a forest scene... I don't think it would be in your best interest to wear green... Unless, you would like to blend in... Yes, I know camouflage is coming back... but I'm sure that's not what you are trying to go for! Also, to take into consider try not to have everyone in busy tones. I think mom in a print dress is fine and then can play off of it... but you don't want Johnny in stripes, and then Ted.. then mom and dad...
I think you see where I'm going with this! Also, you don't want to go too matchy matchy! The everyone in jeans.. thing and white t-shirt... I can admit can be cute to see once in awhile.. but how about everyone wear's jeans and to coordinate it up with nice shirts? My biggest thing is to be comfortable.. If you are uncomfortable, it is going to show in your photographs!
Makeup!
Your makeup should be simple! A little concealer, powder, eyeliner, blush... is all you need! The heavy makeup does not look pretty especially after a hot sun beach session! Just take the environment you will be into consideration! Also, you don't want to wear too much trendy jewelry However, some scarves at hats look beautiful. In regards to a beach session, you'll want some shoes you can easily slip on and off.. IE.. you probably don't want to wear heals. Ha!
What to Bring
If kids are involved with your session, bring a favorite toy or a baby blanket, if a little one! It will help them to feel more comfortable. Bring a drink so you can have a sip between small breaks and any props you would like to incorporate! I also supply props and furniture too!
Time To Shoot
The best time to shoot is in the summer/spring before 10am and after 6pm.. This allows for the most beautiful golden light!!!During the fall and winter months, anytime after 2 until sunset is usually great!
Posing!
My posing is extremely natural. Everything you see, is very casual and relaxed, thus allowing for your genuine beauty to shine through! Any questions, let me know! I always consult with my clients prior-hand into what they will be wearing to their session! I will make you shine in your photographs, I promise!
Happy Shooting, my friends! Dee
